Behind the Scenes: Hands‑On with the Gozney Dome Gen 2 (and XL)
Updated 07 October 2025
If you caught our recent launch write‑up on the Gozney Dome Gen 2, you’ll know we’re buzzing about what this oven can do. Today, we’re going fully hands‑on — firing up both the Dome Gen 2 and the Dome XL Gen 2 — to share what it feels like to cook on them in the real world. This isn’t lab talk; it’s pizza‑night, steak‑searing, brunch‑for‑the‑fam energy.
First Impressions: Space to Cook Like You Mean It
The first thing you notice is the room to move. The Dome Gen 2 handles two 10" pizzas at once or a single 16" pie, with space left for more than pizza — think cast‑iron sides and sizzling veggies. Step up to the Dome XL Gen 2 and you’re doing three 10" pizzas, two 12" pizzas, or even an 18" beauty without breaking a sweat. It’s genuine crowd‑pleasing capacity.
Both ovens now ship with an extended flue as standard, which helps reduce emissions and soot around the mouth of the oven. Translation: a cleaner front and a more pleasant cooking zone.
Fuel Your Way — Wood, Charcoal, or Gas
We love the freedom to choose the fire for the moment: wood for romance and flavour, charcoal for that deep, slow roast, or gas when friends are hungry now. Three layers of insulation partnered with a 30 mm stone mean serious heat retention for back‑to‑back bakes, and a quicker path to pizza — you’re up to temp for pizza service in around 30 minutes from cold.
Controls That Make You Feel Like a Pro
The new front display is a quiet game‑changer: it shows air and stone temperatures at a glance, includes a timer for heat‑up or bakes, and accepts two meat probes so you can track proteins precisely. The lateral burner has moved into the side wall; that frees up floor space and lets you dial the flame way down for slower bakes when you need finesse.
Built to Be Used — and Look Good Doing It
Stones are replaceable and parts are serviceable, so you can cook hard without fear. Choose from two finishes — Bone or Off‑Black — and pair your oven with the accessories that match how you like to cook. We’ve linked our favourite add‑ons below.
Accessories We Recommend
- Wood‑Fire Control Kit — a neat module with fan boost that turbo‑charges your fire for lively wood‑flame cooking.
- Gozney Dome Gen 2 Stand — shared for Dome and XL, with sturdy butterfly wings for prep, extra storage, and smooth‑rolling casters.
- Door — Dome‑specific versions for slow roasting, charcoal cooks, or pan pizzas (not intended for use with gas).
- Mantle — clips on to extend your landing zone; perfect for turning pizzas or resting hot cast‑iron.
- Neapolitan Arch — narrows the opening to focus heat for fast, puffy Neapolitan bakes.
- Covers — oven‑only or full‑length options, designed to fit with the extended flue and mantle attached.
